a sold out gourmet evening!
The 8th annual epicurean event From the Street to the Stars to benefit Dans la rue was an incredible success last night! For the first time in its 8 year history, this gourmet event was sold out. 650 guests gathered at the Montreal Science Centre to savour the culinary creations of Montreal's top chefs. Thanks to the participation of restaurants, sponsors and suppliers, this year's benefit event From the Street to the Stars raised over $150,000 which will allow the organization to continue offering street youth essential services.
The chefs from Barroco, Bice, Chez l'Épicier, Café Ferreira, Le Jolifou, Kitchenette, Le Grain de Sel, Le Boucan, Le St-Urbain and Pintxo recreated the classic burger. The guests were treated to unique dishes while enjoying Quebec wines. The VIP judges awarded their prize to Marino Tavares of Café Ferreira. The People's Choice Award was won by Marc-André Royal of Le St-Urbain.
This year, well-known food bloggers were each paired with one of the chefs in order to promote them online. Through their blogs, as well as their strong presence on Twitter, they attracted the attention of online epicureans. Dans la rue's first time use of social media tools, such as Facebook and Twitter, allowed the organization to more successfully promote its event and its partners. During the evening, judges and guests were also invited to participate in a live feed of Twitter, which added a playful element to the burger competition.
