Off-site Activities

Wondering where you are going to sleep and when you will get your next meal are the daily realities of life on the street. It is hard to find things to feel good about, to enjoy and to laugh about. Through its many programs Dans la rue organizes a number of off-site activities to lift the kids' spirits. Off-site activities are designed to:

  • Offer our youths opportunities to learn, explore and discover in a structured, healthy and controlled manner
  • Help our youths integrate with others, learn new behaviours and understand limits
  • Encourage our youths to find new passions, inspirations and dreams
  • Promote positive interaction between the kids and our intervention staff outside of the structured setting of our Day Centre

The front-line intervention team holds off-site activities that may include participating in sports or going to see a show at a theatre. All these activities enable youths to come together with other groups of people and learn new skills and behaviours.

Family Services also organizes weekend outings for the young parents and their children where parenting skills can be learned and new activities explored with a focus on childhood development.

Our prevention project has an intervention worker who holds many activities, from horseback riding to swimming. The Urban Breakaway program (in partnership with Dianova Treatment Center) gives kids the chance to leave the city for a week and take a break from the drug use, violence and crime they are normally exposed to.

Our alternative school also has several outings during the school year designed to help the students further explore career goals and dreams in new settings.

“Camping with Chez Pops was a great adventure, I learned a lot of knew things. I enjoyed things that I had never had the chance to experience such as learning to work with others.”
